Apple has announced a significant milestone in its efforts to become carbon neutral by 2030, surpassing a 60% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2015 levels. Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, highlighted the company's advancements in using clean energy, recycled materials, water conservation, and waste management.
Key achievements include:
- Renewable Energy: Over 17.8 gigawatts of renewable electricity are now online in Apple’s global supply chain, with suppliers avoiding 21.8 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2024.
- Energy Efficiency: Suppliers have reduced nearly 2 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions by optimizing energy efficiency.
- Waste Management: The Zero Waste program redirected approximately 600,000 metric tons of waste from landfills in 2024.
- Water Conservation: Since 2013, the Supplier Clean Water Program has saved over 90 billion gallons of fresh water.
Apple is committed to achieving its goal through innovation, collaboration, and urgent action, with a focus on cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 75% compared to 2015 levels and applying high-quality carbon credits for the remaining emissions.
