Apple Trade-In Glitch: Don't Panic if You Receive an Erroneous 'Device Not Received' Email

Apple's system update leads to erroneous emails about failed trade-ins, causing confusion among users who had already completed the process months ago.

On March 13, 2025, an update to the Apple Store systems caused some users to receive erroneous emails stating that their trade-in devices had not been received. These emails were legitimate and contained accurate details about the order, but they were incorrect in claiming the trade-ins were missing. An AppleInsider staffer in the UK experienced this issue with an iPhone 13 Pro traded in for an iPhone 16 Pro Max in September 2024. Apple Support confirmed that the email was a result of a system update and assured users that there would be no changes to their monthly payments or trade-in refunds. Users who receive such emails are advised to verify previous confirmations of their trade-ins and check for any refunded amounts. This is not the first instance of this error, with a similar issue occurring in April 2024 for US customers.
