Apple Vision Pro's New Game Controller: Familiar Design with High-Tech Twist

A new patent application from Apple titled 'Handheld Input Devices' has been made public, revealing details of a potential game controller for the Apple Vision Pro headset. The document describes a system that includes an electronic device like a head-mounted display and a handheld input device with features such as a lanyard with visual markers for tracking, an inertial measurement unit for motion detection, and haptic feedback. The patent application briefly mentions using the device for gaming, but most of its 18,000 words and 13 illustrations focus on technical aspects like the lanyard and oversized Apple Pencil-like designs. Despite this, one of the final illustrations shows a hand holding a controller similar to those found in existing game consoles. The patent is credited to inventor Paul X. Wang, but the existence of the application does not guarantee that such a device will be released.
