Apple's Mac Market Share Surges; Dominates AI-Capable PC Segment

Apple Leads in AI-Capable PCs and Q4 Market Growth
A recent market intelligence report from Canalys highlights that Apple's Mac market share grew faster than the top three PC brands—Lenovo, HP, and Dell—in the fourth quarter of 2024. Despite holding only a 10% share of the overall PC market, placing it in fourth place, Apple achieved significant growth and is well-positioned for future enterprise expansion with its new Apple Partner Network.
Market Share Overview
- Lenovo: 25%
- HP: 20%
- Dell: 15%
- Apple: 10%
- Asus: 7%
- Acer: 6%
- Huawei: 2%
- Microsoft: 0.4%
- Others: 15%
AI-Capable PCs
In the AI-capable PC market, defined by systems with dedicated AI chips, Apple leads with a 45% share, followed by Lenovo and HP at 15% each. For the full year of 2024, 17% of shipped PCs were AI-capable, with Apple dominating at 45%. While AI capabilities are not currently a primary purchasing driver, Canalys expects them to become increasingly important for personalized experiences and productivity gains in the future.
Trade Policy Concerns
Canalys also notes that trade policy shifts, particularly Trump's 10% tariff on Chinese imports, could pose a threat to PC market growth. The tariffs account for a significant majority of laptops shipped to the US and could hamper the commercial refresh cycle driven by Microsoft ending support for Windows 10.
