Apple made a working cellular MacBook prototype in 2007, but Steve Jobs rejected the idea for two reasons that no longer apply today. With Apple's own modem chip and eSIMs, it may be time to finally release a cellular MacBook. However, public Wi-Fi hotspots are now ubiquitous, and Personal Hotspot on iPhones makes connecting seamless, so there may not be as much demand for a built-in cellular connection in laptops.
