Apple's Siri Struggles: Delayed Enhancements and Executive Tightrope

Apple's Efforts to Improve Siri with Apple Intelligence Face Delays
Apple has faced significant delays in upgrading its voice assistant, Siri, with the advanced AI capabilities known as Apple Intelligence. These setbacks have been acknowledged internally by Robby Walker, head of Siri efforts at Apple, who described them as 'embarrassing' and 'disappointing.' The company's marketing department had expected more features to be ready by now, including on-screen awareness, personal context, and improved voice control, which are now officially delayed until 2026.
Apple is known for generally delivering on its promises, making this delay unusual. Despite the issues, there are no plans for executive changes; Apple's leadership team remains tight-knit and rarely sees major transitions. This week, 100 top executives will gather at their annual retreat to discuss how to accelerate the rollout of Apple Intelligence.
The delays highlight a need for Apple to reconsider its approach to pre-announcing features that are not yet fully developed. The annual retreat could be an opportunity for executives to create a detailed plan to deliver the remaining features and ensure a smooth roll-out, especially given the competition from Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot AI engines. iOS 19 and macOS 16, expected in autumn 2025, will need to be ready for beta testing by June's WWDC conference.
