Apple's Unique Perspective on Artificial General Intelligence
Apple reveals a radically different view on artificial general intelligence compared to its competitors, with Apple's AI head calling some common AGI optimism 'very naive'
In a recent interview with WIRED, Apple's Senior Vice President of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, John Giannandrea, expressed skepticism about the pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI). He stated that the company has no interest in producing AGI, as it seems unrealistic and almost frivolous. According to Giannandrea, the idea of scaling up current technologies to achieve AGI is very naive. While Apple may be involved in important breakthroughs related to AGI, their focus remains on improving user-facing products.
