Apple's Upcoming Wall-Mounted Smart Display Panel: A Sneak Peek from 2019

A wall-mounted smart display panel that could act as “a command center for the home” is reportedly in the works at Apple and may launch as early as March of next year, featuring a square display roughly 6 inches with “about the size of two iPhones side by side, with a thick edge around the display.” The design is centered around being attached to a wall like a “classic home-security panel” and will be available silver and black color options.

In 2019, I previewed what could be Apple's upcoming wall-mounted smart display by using an old iPad Air as a dedicated smart home control panel. Reactions from non-techy friends were positive, and I believe this product will appeal to many people who find smart home technology complex and inaccessible.

The Bloomberg report suggests that the device will launch in March 2024 and feature a square display of about 6 inches with a camera on the top center, built-in rechargeable battery, speakers, and attachment options for wall mounting. Non-techy friends appreciated the ease of understanding the functionality through the iPad control panel and could see the appeal of controlling smart home devices in an accessible manner.
