Apple's Vision Pro Evolution: Lighter, Cheaper, and More Immersive
Apple is reportedly developing a 'lighter and cheaper' version of the Vision Pro headset, addressing key issues like weight and cost while also working on a wired model for ultra-low latency applications.
Apple Vision Pro Refresh and New Headset Plans
- Heavier Focus on Enterprise Applications: The current version of the Vision Pro is being prioritized for enterprise use due to its higher latency, which can be an issue for real-time applications like surgery or flight simulation. To address this, a new wired model is in development that connects directly to a Mac, providing ultra-low latency.
- Lighter and Cheaper Model: Apple is also working on a lighter and more affordable version of the Vision Pro to tackle issues with weight (1.5 pounds) and high cost (seven times the price of Meta Quest 3). This model aims to reduce neck and head strain while making AR technology more accessible.
- Future Vision: Both updates align with Tim Cook’s long-term vision for AR glasses, though specific details on how these improvements will be achieved are not yet available.
