Chromecast 2nd Gen and Audio Suffer from 'Untrusted Device' Error, Blocking All Content Casting
Chromecast (2nd Gen) and Audio Devices Face 'Untrusted' Outage
Over the past few hours, owners of the Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio have encountered issues with casting audio or video content. Users are receiving an ‘Untrusted device: [name] couldn’t be verified’ error message when attempting to cast from apps like YouTube. This problem affects all users of these two devices, preventing them from proceeding past the dialog box.
Google has not announced any deprecation plans for these devices, as it did with the original Chromecast (1st gen) in May 2023. The issue is likely a bug and Google is expected to address it with a server-side fix soon. Both the Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio were released in September 2015 and run firmware version 1.56.x.
