Denver Police Hand Out Free AirTags to Combat Soaring Car Thefts
The Denver Police Department (DPD) is launching a new initiative to combat car thefts by providing free AirTags and Samsung SmartTags to residents. In collaboration with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA), 450 item trackers will be distributed to those who register for the DenverTrack auto theft prevention program. While these tags do not prevent theft, they can act as a deterrent and aid in vehicle recovery if stolen. Users must add the tag to their Apple or Samsung account, place it in their car, and track it via the Find My app (for AirTags) or a similar service (for SmartTags). If a theft occurs, the owner is responsible for providing the location data to the police. Other cities like Washington D.C., Arvada, and New York City have also implemented similar programs.
