Inside Story on Apple’s ‘Ice Dive’ for Vision Pro
In a recent Voices of VR podcast interview, Kent Bye spoke with Ant Williams, a freediving athlete featured in the “Ice Dive” episode of Apple Vision Pro's 'The Adventure Series.' This immersive video series is part of Apple Studios and Atlantic Productions' collaboration to create unique content for the Vision Pro.
Production Process
- Initial Contact: Atlantic Productions reached out to Williams without revealing the project’s details, simply asking if he was willing to dive under ice. Despite his initial reluctance, they chose him due to his compelling story.
- Revealing the Project: When informed that the project was for Apple and would be in an immersive format, Williams was initially skeptical but became excited as he understood the potential of the technology.
- Immersive Experience: The director, Charlotte Mikkelberg, explained how viewers would feel completely immersed, experiencing the dive as if they were next to the diver. This includes feeling present during preparation and the final breath before diving.
- Williams’s Reaction: After experiencing the footage, Williams described it as ‘the most powerful thing I’ve ever experienced in VR.’
