Global Close Your Rings Day: Earn Rewards with Apple Watch on April 24

Apple is hosting the 'Global Close Your Rings Day' on April 24, where users of the Apple Watch can earn a limited-edition digital award by completing their Activity rings. This involves meeting Move, Exercise, and Stand goals throughout the day. Select Apple Store locations will also offer limited-edition pins while supplies last.

Celebrating 10 Years of Activity Rings

The Apple Watch has featured Activity rings for a decade, which encourage users to burn active calories, complete minutes of brisk movement, and stand for at least one minute each hour over a 12-hour period. Users can customize and pause their goals as needed.

Health Benefits of Daily Movement Goals

A new study from the Apple Heart and Movement Study, in collaboration with Brigham and Women's Hospital and the American Heart Association, analyzed data from over 140,000 participants. The findings show that frequent ring-closers are:

  • 48% less likely to experience poor sleep quality.
  • 73% less likely to have elevated resting heart rates.
  • 57% less likely to report high stress levels. These benefits were consistent across age groups and genders.

Advanced Fitness Tracking and Privacy

The Apple Watch offers advanced features such as the Workout app for tracking exercises, training load monitoring to avoid overtraining, and health-related features like sleep tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, medication reminders, noise alerts, and heart rate notifications. All data is encrypted both on-device and in iCloud, with additional privacy measures if users enable two-factor authentication.

A Push Toward Healthier Habits

Global Close Your Rings Day aims to inspire healthier daily habits through a fun and rewarding challenge. For long-time users, it's an opportunity to earn a new reward, while for newcomers, it serves as an incentive to start incorporating more movement into their daily lives. Apple’s research indicates that consistent activity can lead to better sleep, improved heart health, and reduced stress.
