EU Set to Issue Apple App Store Antitrust Ruling Under Digital Markets Act

The European Union's antitrust chief confirms a ruling on Apple's App Store compliance with the Digital Markets Act could arrive within weeks, potentially impacting US-EU relations.

The European Union (EU) may soon issue a ruling on whether Apple's App Store has breached the Digital Markets Act (DMA), with antitrust chief Teresa Ribera confirming that a decision could arrive within weeks. The investigation, which began in March 2024, has been ongoing despite multiple delays. The potential fine for non-compliance is expected to be 'modest' due to the relatively short duration of any alleged violations since the DMA came into force in 2023. The EU prefers encouraging compliance over imposing heavy fines and may also consider the impact on US-EU relations, particularly in light of existing tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
