Exclusive: Samsung Cracks the Code, Minimizes Crease for Upcoming iPhone Fold

Summary
According to a recent report, Samsung is the only display partner that has successfully minimized the crease in folding phone screens, meeting Apple's stringent quality requirements. This achievement is significant because it has been one of the primary reasons why Apple has delayed the launch of its first foldable iPhone. The company reportedly wanted to wait until the technology could produce a nearly invisible crease in the screen.
Samsung's success came through a collaborative effort with Amphenol, an Apple hinge supplier, which helped develop hinges that reduce the visibility of the crease. Other display partners like LG and BOE have not yet met these standards, leading to Samsung securing the exclusive contract for supplying OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone Fold.
The report highlights that Apple prioritizes quality over cost when selecting component suppliers, and this is evident in their choice of Samsung as the sole provider. The iPhone Fold is expected to launch in the latter half of 2025, featuring a significantly reduced crease, making it a standout product in the foldable phone market.
There have also been discussions about embedding Face ID into the display, but this feature is currently under test and not confirmed for the final product.
