First Lab Tests Reveal iPhone 16e's New Apple Modem Matches Competitors' Speeds, Boosts Battery Efficiency
Lab tests reveal that Apple's new C1 modem in the iPhone 16e matches the performance of its predecessor while boasting impressive energy efficiency, potentially extending battery life by up to an hour.
Initial Tests Show Apple's New Modem in iPhone 16e Comparable to iPhone 16 with Improved Efficiency
The Chinese review site Geekerwan has conducted the first lab tests on the cellular performance of the iPhone 16e, focusing on its new C1 modem. Here are the key findings:
- Comparable Speeds and Reliability: The iPhone 16e performed similarly to the iPhone 16 in terms of cellular connectivity, with no significant differences in speeds or reliability.
- Efficiency Gains: Apple's claims of improved efficiency seem accurate. Geekerwan measured a power draw reduction of about 24% in high signal strength conditions and 17% in low signal conditions compared to the iPhone 16.
- Real-World Battery Life: The iPhone 16e achieved 7 hours and 53 minutes in a 5G video streaming test, which is about an hour longer than the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro. This improvement is attributed to both the C1 modem's efficiency and the larger battery capacity (3961mAh) of the iPhone 16e.
- Subway Testing: During a subway train journey, all iPhone 16 models performed similarly in terms of dropout rates and average connectivity strength, with no notable differences.
The results suggest that Apple's in-house C1 modem is not only competitive with Qualcomm's offering but also brings significant efficiency improvements.
