France Set to Launch Nationwide Digital ID Cards on iPhone This Summer

France plans to introduce a digital version of its identity cards on the iPhone this summer through an app called France Identite. The digital ID card will be available for use during the summer vacations, first as an experiment before a full rollout later in the year. This initiative builds upon France's existing efforts with digital driving licenses, which were launched in 2024. In contrast, the adoption of digital IDs in the U.S. is much slower, with only a few states supporting them. Europe is also working on a broader framework for digital identities across the EU, but widespread implementation remains pending.
