Google Debuts ‘Battery Health Assistance’ on Pixel 9a: Extending Device Lifespan through Smart Charging

Google is introducing a new software feature called 'Battery health assistance' on Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 9a, aimed at extending their usability over time. This feature will manage battery performance to maintain health as the battery ages by adjusting maximum voltage and charging speed based on charge cycles. It will result in small decreases in runtime and slight changes in charging performance but is designed to help stabilize battery performance. The feature will be mandatory for the Pixel 9a but voluntary for previously launched devices. Google plans to roll this out later this year, with Android 16 potentially introducing additional battery health features like estimated capacity percentage and cycle count.
