Google discusses battery life expectations for Pixel users in Tensor G6 planning

Google aims for 36 hours of battery life in the Tensor G6 chip, as many users reported not making it through a day with previous generations.

In developing the Tensor G6 for the Pixel 11 series, Google has discussed issues users have had in past generations, with battery life being a significant concern. Planning documents reveal that over 86% of Pixel 6/7 users do not make it through the day, and 'Battery life is always at the top of conjoint studies.'

Google found that users expect 36 hours of battery life after surveying them. The company currently touts '24+ hour battery life' on its specifications sheet for the Pixel 9 series.

The document also discusses the need to reduce the cost of the Tensor chip, with a target of around $65 to make the business viable. To achieve this, Google aims to make the Tensor G6 smaller than the G5 by removing various components such as ray tracing support on the GPU.
