Google Expands Document Analysis: Free Gemini Users Gain Access to PDFs and Docs

Free Gemini Users Can Now Upload and Analyze Documents
Google has announced that the document upload feature is now available to all Gemini users, including free accounts, across web, Android, and iOS platforms. This feature was initially introduced for Advanced subscribers in May last year. Free users can now upload multiple Google Docs, PDFs, and Word documents using either direct uploads or through Google Drive. The service provides quick summaries, personalized feedback, and actionable insights.
On Android devices, file uploads enable features like 'Ask about this PDF' in Files by Google and 'Talk Like about this' on Pixel 9 series and Galaxy S24/S25. However, free users still cannot upload spreadsheets or code files, which remain exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers. The context window for document analysis is not specified, but paid users can handle up to 1 million tokens.
To access the feature, users need to tap the 'plus' icon in the Ask Gemini field, where they will find options for Files and Drive along with existing Camera and Gallery options.
