Google Home App Gains Enhanced Controls for Nest x Yale Locks in Upcoming Update
Summary
Despite discontinuing the manufacture of new Nest x Yale Locks, Google has announced that it will add more controls and features for the existing smart locks in the Google Home app 'later this year'. These updates are part of Google's move away from the dedicated Nest app. Currently, users can manage basic functions like lock/unlock status, device name, placement in Google Home, lock tone volume, and one-touch locking within the Google Home app. However, more advanced features such as passcode management, privacy mode, family & guest codes, lock history, and auto-lock are still exclusive to the Nest app.
Google's announcement promises that 'passcode management and other features' will be available in the Google Home app soon, though a precise timeline has not been provided. The company is also discontinuing the Nest Protect, with third-party successors expected to fill the gap.
