Google Maps and Waze Introduce Advanced Incident Reporting, Lockscreen Navigation, and More

Google Maps and Waze introduce new safety features, including more prominent incident reporting and lockscreen navigation.

New Features for Google Maps and Waze

Google Maps Incident Reporting Redesign:

  • Mobile & Android Auto: A redesigned incident reporting feature with a prominent orange triangle that opens a larger sheet with bigger buttons. Users can report incidents like crashes, slowdowns, police presence, mobile speed cameras, construction, lane closures, stalled vehicles, and objects on the road.
  • Destination Guidance: New feature that highlights building entrances as users approach them, along with nearby parking lots. Available on Android, iOS, Android Auto, Android Automotive, and CarPlay.

Waze Updates:

  • New Camera Alerts: Waze will notify users about new camera types, including speeding, red light violations, using the wrong lane (bus, HOV, carpool), not wearing a seatbelt, or using phones while driving.
  • Traffic Events Notifications: Alerts for concerts, parades, and other events that impact traffic in areas with saved or recently driven routes. Users can share these details with others.
  • Lock Screen Navigation: Turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, and hazard alerts even when the phone is locked. Available globally on Android this month and coming to iOS in the fall.
