Google Meet Gets a Fresh Material 3 Makeover on Android and iOS

Google Meet introduces a sleek Material 3 redesign for mobile controls, enhancing user navigation and interaction.

Google Meet Redesign for Android and iOS Google Meet is rolling out a redesign for its mobile apps on both Android and iOS, aiming to make the interface more intuitive and user-friendly. The updates are purely design-focused, with no changes to functionality.

Key Changes:

  • New Control Sheet: Tapping the three-dot overflow button now opens a Material 3 layout with larger buttons, replacing the previous floating panel arranged in a 3x3 grid.
  • Emoji Button: A new emoji button is added to the floating control bar, making it easier to access reactions. The hand raise feature has been moved to the top of the overflow menu as a large button.
  • Host Controls and Reporting: Host management controls and the 'Report a problem' option have been relocated to the fullscreen settings page, accessible from the bottom-left corner of the new sheet.
  • iOS Changes: On iOS, the end call button has been moved to the right side of the primary controls to align with other platforms.

Platform-Specific Details:

  • Android: The update is version 291.0.722438190 and will roll out in the coming weeks.
  • iOS: The iOS update is version 294.0, which will follow after the Android release.
