Google Play Store Glitch Shows Repeat App Updates, Baffles Users

Strange bug hits the Google Play Store, causing repeated updates for already installed apps on Android devices.

On Friday evening, the Google Play Store started displaying repeat app updates for Android users, an issue that has occurred before. Notably, apps such as Gboard, Google Messages, Pocket Casts, and The Athletic are shown with no update size and a recent 'Updated at [time]' timestamp. Tapping on the 'Update' button initiates a small download (1-2 MB) and goes through the installation process, but the version number does not change, indicating that the app is being updated to a version already installed. Despite this, there are no reported issues with these 'updated' apps beyond the minor inconvenience of wasted data. The bug affects both Google and third-party apps on Android 14 (Samsung) and 15 (Pixel) devices across multiple accounts.
