Google Rebrands 'Chromecast built-in' to 'Google Cast': A Return to the Past?

Google is bringing back the 'Google Cast' brand, replacing 'Chromecast built-in,' a move that simplifies branding and aligns with Google's ecosystem.

At I/O 2024, Google quietly rebranded 'Chromecast built-in' to 'Google Cast,' reversing a branding change from 2016. The original 'Google Cast' was phased out in favor of 'Chromecast built-in' due to consumer awareness of the affordable Chromecast dongles. LG announced at CES that its 2024 webOS-powered TVs will support 'Chromecast built-in.' Google also mentioned during I/O that 'Google Cast (formerly Chromecast built-in)' is coming to Android Automotive. The updated branding is now referenced on Android.com and a Google Support article. End users should not expect any changes in functionality, but new product packaging may feature the 'Google Cast' badge. This change could be aimed at reserving the 'Chromecast' name for first-party products.
