Google Resolves Maps Timeline Data Deletion Issue; Offers Restoration for Most Users

In early March, Google Maps users encountered an issue where their Timeline location history was missing, spanning back years for some accounts. The problem resulted from a technical glitch that caused the deletion of Timeline data. After acknowledging the issue, Google has since fixed it and restored functionality, ensuring new visits are being recorded correctly. For almost all users who had 'encrypted Timeline backups' enabled, data can be restored via a cloud icon in the top-right corner of the Timeline UI. However, those without backups cannot recover their lost information. This incident has sparked concern among users about Google's reliability and direction, especially following other recent issues such as the Pixel 4a problems and the end of support for certain Chromecast devices.
