Google Reveals Pixel 9a's Camera Design Journey: From Spanning Bump to Minimal Dome

Summary of Pixel 9a Camera Design Exploration
Following the release of the Pixel 9a, Google provided insights into the various designs it considered for the rear camera bump. The exploration included a range of shapes and sizes, focusing on both aesthetics and durability. The final design featured a minimally domed pill shape, which balances uniqueness with family resemblance to other Pixel devices.
Google's product management director, Soniya Jobanputra, emphasized that while the 9a is distinct, it maintains the Pixel identity. Additionally, the device uses a thinner pOLED panel, allowing for increased battery capacity and a lower camera bump. The display brightness has also been enhanced to 2,700 nits from 2,000 in the previous model.
The new color option, 'Iris,' is described as a versatile shade that can appear blue or purple, fitting well with the device's overall design. Google also introduced a case for the Pixel 9a that allows the color to be visible through a cutout around the camera and flash.
