Google Rolls Out Pixel 4a Update with Battery Fixes and Offers Free Replacements

Google rolls out a new update for the Pixel 4a to improve battery stability, offering free replacements or compensation for affected users.

Summary

On January 8, 2025, Google released an Over-The-Air (OTA) update for the Pixel 4a, specifically aimed at improving battery performance. This update, labeled TQ3A.230805.001.S2, includes new battery management features to enhance stability but may result in shorter battery life between charges and reduced charging performance. The update is available for all Pixel 4a devices, though not all will experience the changes.

Google also initiated a free battery replacement program for affected Pixel 4a users. Eligibility can be checked on Google's official site. Battery replacements are available at walk-in repair centers in several countries and through mail-in services in the United States. Devices with additional damage may incur extra fees for repairs.

For those ineligible for a free battery replacement, Google is offering alternatives: a $50 refund or a $100 discount code towards the purchase of another Pixel phone from the Google Store. Users have one year from the initial software release to register and choose an option.

The program ends on January 8, 2026.
