Google Shatters App Store Norms: External Billing Arriving for US and UK Users

A major shift in the digital economy begins as Google prepares to unlock third-party payment options for millions of Android users.

Starting June 30, Google will officially permit Android developers to implement external billing systems for apps within the Play Store across the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe. This expansion of the User Choice Billing program allows alternative payment methods to exist alongside the standard Google Play system. While developers will still be required to pay a service fee to Google, the rate will be reduced by approximately 3% to 4% for transactions processed through these third-party channels. This move marks a significant evolution in mobile marketplace policy, responding to global regulatory trends and developer demands for greater financial flexibility.
