Google Tests Vibrant Blue Dark Theme for Android Search App

Google is testing a darker, more vibrant blue theme for the Search app and Android, giving it a modern and refreshed look.

Google Testing a New Dark Theme on Android

In recent weeks, Google Search has been experimenting with a new dark theme for its app on Android devices. This theme features a darker, blue hue compared to the current light-gray dark mode. The testing is limited and only visible on certain devices running the latest beta version (16.3.32), primarily when users are signed out of their Google Account in Incognito mode.

New Design Elements:

  • Home and Search Tabs: The new dark blue background is applied to these sections, making the app feel more modern and vibrant.
  • Search Field and Bottom Bar: These elements have been refreshed with a lighter appearance compared to the rest of the screen.
  • Saved and Notifications: These tabs still retain the gray color from the previous theme.

Testing Phase:

  • The new theme is not yet available on the main Google.com homepage.
  • There are no changes to the light theme.
  • It remains unclear if this design will be rolled out more widely.
