Google TV's 'Apps only' mode now shows ads and recommendations for more users

Google TV's 'Apps only' mode, which has been available for some time and reduces the interface to just apps, is now showing ads and recommendations to many more users globally. Previously, this was limited to the US, but reports have come in from various European countries as well as New Zealand about this change.
The new experience still looks cleaner than the core Google TV interface, which has been increasingly cluttered with ads and sponsored content over the past couple of years.
