Google Unleashes Free Gems and Enhanced Flash Thinking for Gemini Users

Gemini App Updates and Features for Free Users
Google is rolling out several updates for the Gemini app, expanding access to advanced features for free users. Here are the key points:
-
New Gems Availability: Free users (over 18) can now use premade Gems such as Brainstormer, Career Guide, Coding Partner, Learning Coach, and Writing Editor. They can also create custom Gems for tasks like translation, meal planning, or math coaching. This feature is available on mobile but creation is only possible on the web.
-
Deep Research Tool: The Deep Research tool, previously exclusive to Advanced subscribers, is now available to all Gemini users in over 45 languages. It leverages the new 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model, enhancing capabilities in planning, searching, reasoning, analyzing, and reporting.
-
Enhanced 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental: This updated version offers better efficiency and speed. The reasoning model is trained to break down prompts into steps, improving its reasoning capabilities and response quality. It can now handle file uploads and access various Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Messages, YouTube, etc., making it more versatile for complex requests.
-
Personalization (Experimental) Model: This new model connects with Google apps and services to deliver more tailored responses based on user history. For example, it can provide personalized travel advice or content ideas for a YouTube channel. The Personalization model is rolling out gradually to the web before extending to mobile.
-
Google Photos Integration: Coming soon, a Google Photos app will allow users to create travel itineraries or recall information from their photos.
These updates aim to make Gemini more accessible and powerful for free users, enhancing its capabilities in research, personalization, and task management.
