Google Unveils 'AI Mode' for Search, Paving the Way for Smarter Queries and Deeper Insights

Google has announced the launch of 'AI Mode' in Search, a new experimental feature that allows users to ask more complex and nuanced questions. This mode provides AI-generated responses that cover the whole page and are designed to be more advanced, with capabilities for reasoning, thinking, and multimodal interactions. The AI Model is powered by a customized version of Gemini 2.0 and can access real-time information from various sources. Users can interact with AI Mode through text, images, and voice on mobile devices, and the feature supports follow-up questions and provides inline sources for verification. Initial testing has shown that queries in AI Mode are longer and more complex, with users following up with additional questions 25% of the time. Google One AI Premium subscribers in the US will be invited to test AI Mode starting today.
