Google Wallet to Offer Digital IDs with US Passports, Support for Additional State IDs in Development

Google Wallet is adding the ability to digitize US passports, offering an alternative to waiting for states to implement digital ID support. Users can add their passport to the wallet by taking a picture of the personal information and photo page, scanning the security chip on the back cover, and recording a short video of their face for verification. Once verified, the digital passport will appear in the Google Wallet homepage under the user's credit/debit cards. However, these digital passports are not considered government-issued IDs and should not replace physical IDs. The feature will soon enter beta testing and is expected to provide users with faster access to digital IDs on their phones.
