Google’s 2.0 Experimental Advanced Model Mysteriously Returns in Gemini App

A user-favorite experimental model, gemini-exp-1206, makes a mysterious return in the Gemini app’s model picker, but only on web, puzzling users and raising questions about Google's testing process.

In what appears to be a bug, the Gemini app is once again displaying and allowing access to the 2.0 Experimental Advanced (gemini-exp-1206) model. This model, known for its exceptional capabilities in complex tasks such as coding, math, reasoning, and instruction following, was initially announced by Google in mid-December. It has reappeared at the bottom of the model picker on gemini.google.com, alongside 2.5 Pro (experimental), which is currently the top model. The return of gemini-exp-1206 is reminiscent of a recent incident where 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental) disappeared from mobile apps over the weekend. While gemini-exp-1206 is not visible in the mobile app, it lacks file upload and access to real-time information and some Gemini features.
