Google's AR Ambitions and the Potential for Screen-less Smart Glasses
Google's AR and Gemini ambitions should start by competing with Ray-Ban, creating their own smart glasses that feature a camera and headphones for Gemini.
Google is reportedly not developing consumer XR hardware such as headsets or glasses, but instead focusing on an OEM model where it develops the Android OS and services. However, it's hoped that Google is creating its own display-less glasses with a camera and headphones for its Gemini AI. These glasses could compete with Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses and might be launched before Apple's rumoured entry into the market in 2027.
