Google's Gemini App Gets a Fresh Look with New Prompt Bar on Android and iOS

Google's Gemini app gets a fresh prompt bar redesign on Android and iOS, making key features more accessible and aligning with the web experience.

Google is rolling out a new prompt bar design for the Gemini app on both Android and iOS platforms, following recent web redesigns and updates. The redesigned prompt bar features a rounded rectangle text field labeled 'Ask Gemini,' with a simplified set of action buttons including Camera, Gallery, Files, and Drive. Additional functionalities are accessible through pill-shaped buttons for 'Research' (for in-depth reports), 'Canvas' (to create documents and code), and 'Video' (using Veo 2 generation). These features remain highlighted when tapped.

The model picker has been updated to remove Deep Research and Veo 2, emphasizing them as Gemini capabilities rather than separate models. The available models now include 2.0 Flash (fast all-around help), 2.5 Flash (preview) for speedier reasoning, 2.5 Pro (preview) for advanced tasks like math and coding, and Personalization (preview) based on search history.

The prompt bar also includes a voice input microphone and the Gemini Live button. The redesign aims to introduce more features while aligning with the web UI, though it is slightly less minimalistic compared to the previous design. This update has been observed in both stable and beta versions of the Google app 16.18 on Android and is rolling out to iOS as well.
