Google's Gemini Ups the Game for Meet and Chat with AI-Enhanced Features

Google Meet and Chat are getting a host of new Gemini-powered features, including customizable virtual backgrounds, studio-quality lighting and sound enhancements, and real-time language translation in Chat.

New Gemini Features for Workspace, Chat, and Meet

Google Meet

  • Unique Meeting Backgrounds: Powered by Gemini, users can generate bespoke meeting backgrounds with improved visual quality and a variety of preset options (e.g., Professional office, Tropical beach).
  • Studio Look: Enhances portrait quality by reducing noise and increasing sharpness, ensuring users look their best.
  • Studio Lighting: Simulates studio-quality lighting to improve video feed appearance.
  • Studio Sound: Balances missing or distorted frequencies to ensure clear audio in meetings.

Google Chat

  • Language Translation: Gemini can detect and translate messages into over 120 languages, keeping the original message available for review. Users can enable this feature in Settings > Automatic Translation.

Google Drawing

  • Background Removal: The new 'Remove Background' tool allows users to easily remove backgrounds from images, similar to features in Slides and Vids.

  • Meet and Chat Gemini Features: Rolling out over the coming weeks for Workspace Business and Enterprise tiers (Standard and Plus).
