Google's Phone App Beta Introduces Call History Filters and a Material 3 Makeover
Google's Phone app introduces call history filters and a Material 3 search bar, enhancing usability for all Android users in the beta program.

The Phone by Google application is introducing new filters for the call history, enhancing usability and organization for users. This update has been widely rolled out to beta channel participants (version 162) and is available across all Android devices, not just Pixel phones.
Key Features:
- Bigger Search Bar: The top search bar now aligns with Material 3 design principles, making it larger and more consistent with other Google apps like Gmail.
- Call History Filters: Users can now filter calls by categories such as All, Missed, Contacts, Non-Spam, and Spam. These filters help users quickly sort through their call history and focus on specific types of calls.
- User Experience Improvements: The app remembers the last used filter when it remains in the Recents or multitasking view, but will default to the 'All' view otherwise.
- Visual Design: While the filters are currently displayed as a carousel, there's potential for a cleaner design by hiding them behind a filter icon similar to Google Contacts.
This update aims to make managing call history more efficient and user-friendly for all Android users.
