Hands-On: Google's Gemini Live Brings Project Astra Camera and Screen Sharing to Android

Gemini Live’s Astra Camera and Screen Sharing Features Rollout
Google has started rolling out new features for Gemini Live, powered by Project Astra, to Android users. These features were announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this month and include real-time camera capabilities and screen sharing.
- Screen Sharing: An Android user reported seeing a 'Share screen with Live' button above the 'Ask about screen' suggestion chip in Gemini Live. This feature allows you to share your entire screen but does not support sharing individual apps.
- Real-Time Camera Capabilities: The new camera features can be accessed by opening the full Gemini Live interface and starting a video stream. A button in the bottom-right corner lets you switch to the front-facing camera.
Google is rolling out these features gradually, and they are not yet available on all devices checked. The report comes from a Xiaomi phone and a Google One subscriber. Initially, these features will be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers (AI Premium starts at $19.99 per month) and Android devices in general.
Google previously stated that Pixel and Galaxy S25 series owners would be among the first to get Project Astra capabilities. There is no technical reason for gating Astra to specific devices, and it should also work on iPhones, though Google has not yet discussed expanded support for iOS.
Additional updates include a new phone call-style notification, a more compact fullscreen interface, and other features like Canvas and Audio Overviews being rolled out to both Android and iOS.
