iCloud backups for iPhones running iOS 8 and older to be deleted and discontinued

iCloud backups will soon stop working and even be deleted on older iPhones running iOS 8 and prior, with users needing to update their devices or use an alternate backup method.

Apple has announced that starting December 18, 2024, iCloud backups will no longer be available for devices running iOS 8 or older. This means that users with iPhones operating on these outdated systems will need to update to a newer version of iOS in order to continue creating and accessing iCloud backups. For those unable to update their devices, Apple suggests using a Mac or PC to create manual backups via Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes apps. Devices still running iOS 8 or earlier after the deadline will have their backup data deleted.
