Government tax levies are adding hundreds of dollars to the price of an iPhone 16 Pro Max in India, leading to increased smuggling attempts. In two separate incidents on the same day, customs officials at Delhi airport seized a total of 38 iPhone 16 Pro Max units from passengers arriving from Dubai and Hong Kong. The cost difference between the iPhones in other countries versus the retail Indian price can be over $500 more than the US base price due to high import taxes.
