iPhone 17 Set for Liquid Cooling Upgrade: Vapor Chambers in Pro Models?

Upcoming iPhone 17 models might get a high-tech liquid cooling system, known as a vapor chamber, potentially enhancing thermal management and performance.

iPhone 17 Liquid Cooling System At least one model of the upcoming iPhone 17 is expected to feature a vapor chamber liquid cooling system, according to multiple reports. This technology aims to improve thermal management and prevent performance throttling under heavy loads.

Thermal Throttling Issue

Apple's chips have become increasingly powerful over the years, but they can run hot during demanding tasks like gaming. To protect components from heat damage, devices reduce performance through a process known as thermal throttling.

Current Cooling Methods

Current iPhones use passive cooling with heatsinks made of metal or graphite to transfer heat to the outer casing. Vapor chambers are more advanced, using an internal liquid that vaporizes and travels to cooler areas, where it condenses, effectively dissipating heat.

Reports on iPhone 17 Models

  • Ming-Chi Kuo: Predicted in summer 2024 that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max would feature a vapor chamber combined with graphite sheets.
  • MyDrivers: Suggested all iPhone 17 models would include vapor chambers.
  • Instant Digital: Confirmed both Pro models (iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max) will have vapor chambers.

Likelihood of Vapor Chambers

Given the consistency across multiple sources, it is likely that at least some premium iPhone 17 models will feature vapor chamber technology.
