iPhone Reigns Supreme Among Teens, But Apple Faces Challenges Elsewhere
Teenage Consumers Prefer iPhones but Lag Behind on Other Apple Products
Key Findings:
- iPhone Popularity: 88% of teenagers own an iPhone, up from 85% a year ago. Similarly, 88% intend to purchase an iPhone for their next mobile device.
- Upgrading Plans: 25% expect to upgrade to the iPhone 17 in the fall or winter, compared to 22% last year.
Other Apple Products:
- Virtual Reality (VR): Only 1% of teens use the Apple Vision Pro, while 25% use Oculus. Usage of VR devices is declining, with 60% of owners rarely using them, up from 50% in Fall 2022.
- Streaming Services:
- Apple TV+: Only 1% of teens watch Apple TV+. Netflix has gained ground on YouTube, with 31% preferring Netflix and 26% choosing YouTube.
- Music Streaming: Apple Music is used by 34% of teens over the last six months, closely trailing Spotify at 65%. However, for subscriptions, Apple Music is at 30%, while Spotify leads at 45%.
Social Media and Gaming:
- Social Platforms: TikTok is the favorite with a 47% share, followed by Instagram at 28%. Engagement-wise, Instagram leads with 87% versus TikTok's 79%.
- Gaming: Roblox remains popular, with 42% of teens playing it at least once a month.
Spending Habits:
- Annual Spending: Teenagers spend an average of $2,388 annually, up 6% from the previous year and 1% from fall 2024.
