Meta Opens Community Notes to Contributors as Musk Vows to ‘Fix’ X’s Fact-Checking
Meta Community Notes and Musk's Threats Meta is set to launch its own version of community notes within the next couple of months, a feature inspired by X (formerly Twitter) where users can add corrections and context to posts. This move comes as Meta ends its third-party fact-checking program in the United States, aiming for a more community-driven approach that reduces bias. Interested individuals can now apply to contribute to these notes across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, owner of X, has threatened to 'fix' the platform's community notes feature after his own tweets and those he retweeted were corrected by users. This includes corrections to claims made about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's approval ratings and the legality of holding elections during wartime. Despite these corrections being factually accurate, including validation from Musk’s own AI tool Grok, he has expressed dissatisfaction with how the feature is being 'gamed' by governments and legacy media.
