MoneyGram and Comcast Hacks Expose Sensitive Customer Data

MoneyGram has confirmed a data breach that saw an attacker gain access to the personal information of its customers, which includes sensitive data such as social security numbers and government-issued identification documents.

MoneyGram has admitted to a data breach where attackers accessed and obtained the personal information of some users between September 20 and 22, 2024. The compromised data includes names, contact info, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, government-issued IDs, bank account numbers, rewards numbers, transaction info and criminal investigation details, but the company has not revealed how many customers were affected.

In an unrelated incident, Comcast was forced to admit in July that some customer data had been stolen in a February hack targeting a debt collection agency it uses. The breach affects 237,703 customers who signed up with Comcast around 2021 and includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account numbers and ID numbers.
