Nintendo Launches 'Nintendo Today!' App: Your Ultimate Guide to All Things Nintendo

New 'Nintendo Today!' App Launched for iOS and Android
Nintendo has introduced the new 'Nintendo Today!' app, designed to serve as a hub for all Nintendo-related content. The app was released on March 27, 2025, coinciding with the start of the Nintendo Direct March 2025 event.
Key Features:
- Animated Calendar: Displays the date and any relevant Nintendo news or events. Users can customize the calendar to focus on their favorite Nintendo franchises such as Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and more.
- Customizable Widgets: Adds a widget to the home screen that showcases art from your preferred Nintendo game series.
- Daily Updates: Provides daily updates and news for selected Nintendo IPs.
Availability:
- iOS: Free download from the App Store, requires iOS 16.0 or later.
- Android: Available on the Google Play store.
Historical Context:
Nintendo has a history of discontinuing mobile apps, including Miitomo (2016-2018) and Dr. Mario World (2019-2022). However, Super Mario Run and Mario Kart Tour are still available despite initial challenges. In 2023, Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Nintendo would not develop future Super Mario titles for mobile platforms, focusing instead on broader experiences.
In 2024, the company announced plans to end the online portion of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp but relaunch it with an offline-only mode.
