Norway Fights Apple Pay: Vipps MobilePay Becomes First Rival to Launch on iPhone
Norwegian firm Vipps MobilePay becomes the first to take advantage of EU law requiring Apple to allow Apple Pay rivals to use its iPhone NFC technology, offering an alternative to Apple Pay on iPhone.
A Norwegian firm has become the first to take advantage of the EU law that required Apple to allow rivals to use its NFC technology. Vipps MobilePay users in Norway can now choose to use their service instead of Apple Pay as per the EU's Digital Markets Act. Other firms across the EU are also working to launch their own rival systems, and following the EU's demand, Apple has begun opening up the NFC tech to developers in other regions as well.
