Phil Schiller's Testimony Unveils Concerns Over App Store Fees for External Purchases
Phil Schiller Testifies About App Store Fees in Apple vs Epic Hearing
Apple executive Phil Schiller revealed his concerns over Apple's fees for external purchases during a court hearing related to the ongoing Apple vs Epic legal battle. During internal meetings, Schiller opposed implementing a fee for purchases made via external websites, arguing that it could lead to an antagonistic relationship between Apple and app developers. Despite his reservations, Apple introduced a 27% fee for external purchases in January 2024, following discussions with CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri. Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney criticized the decision, calling it 'malicious compliance.' The case continues with further testimony, including from Carson Oliver, an Apple employee who worked under Schiller.
