Pixel 9a Misses Out on Satellite SOS Due to Outdated Modem, Google Confirms

Discover why the budget-friendly Pixel 9a misses out on a key safety feature due to its older modem, and what it means for potential buyers.

The Pixel 9a, priced at $499, lacks support for Google’s Satellite SOS feature due to its older Exynos 5300 modem. This safety feature is available on the Pixel 9 series and requires the newer Exynos 5400 modem. Despite this omission, the Pixel 9a retains other features such as Tensor G4 but misses out on Pixel Screenshots and Call Notes due to less RAM. The device’s release was delayed to April because of a component quality issue. Google is expected to switch to a MediaTek modem for future mid-range devices, which may bring satellite support.
